Japanese Rush (scientifically known as Acorus gramineus) is a popular semi-aquatic perennial plant native to Japan, Korea, and eastern Asia. Also commonly referred to as Japanese sweet flag or grassy-leaved sweet flag, it is highly prized in landscaping, water gardens, and the aquarium hobby for its narrow, sword-shaped leaves and tufted, grass-like growth habit.
Aquarium & Terrarium Use: It is popular in the aquarium trade but is considered semi-aquatic rather than fully aquatic. In an aquarium or pond, its foliage needs to emerge above the water line to breathe long-term, making it excellent for open-top tanks, ripariums, and terrariums.
Aromatic Foliage: When the leaves are crushed or bruised, they release a sweet, pleasant fragrance.
