The green fire tetra (Aphyocharax rathbuni) is a small active freshwater fish from South America known for its shimmering metallic green body and bright red fins.

Appearance
- Body: Translucent and shimmering with a metallic green color.
- Fins: Bright red or orange on the lower belly, tail, and anal fin.
- Males: Grow small white tips on their pelvic, anal, and dorsal fins.
- Females: Have plumper bodies and less intense colors.
Tank Requirements
- Tank Size: At least 40 litres (10 gallons) for a small group.
- Water Temperature: 20°C to 26°C (72°F to 78°F).
- Water pH: 6.0 to 7.5 (slightly acidic to neutral).
- Decorations: Add live plants, driftwood, and dark substrate to make them feel safe and show their best colors. They swim in the middle and upper parts of the water.
Behavior and Tank Mates
- Schooling: They are social and feel safe in groups of six or more.
- Fin-Nipping: Males can be playful or nippy with each other and other slow fish.
- Good Tank Mates: Peaceful community fish like Corydoras catfish, rasboras, and other peaceful tetras.
- Avoid: Do not keep them with long-finned fish like guppies, as the tetras might nip their fins.
Diet
- Omnivore: They eat almost any small food.
- Foods: Give them high-quality flakes, small micro-pellets, and frozen or live foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.
